The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of New Mexico
New Mexico's Mayflower society is an affiliate of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants founded in 1897 in Plymouth, Mass. Our organization seeks to preserve the legacy of the 102 brave passengers who came ashore in 1620 as winter set in. They would soon establish the first self-governing community on American soil.
Our society provides social and educational opportunities for members and guests, anchored by luncheons in November and April that feature expert speakers and streaming presentations.
New Mexico high school seniors benefit from our annual competitive scholarships to attend a college, university or other degree programs of their choice.
Each of our 150 members has documented their descent from one or more of these Mayflower passengers through an application approved by New Mexico and national society Historians. We invite you to discover if you are one of the millions of their descendants living in America today, and to work with us to document your ancestry.

Only 52 of the passengers who came over on the Mayflower survived until the first Thanksgiving in 1621. Those who passed on are honored with this sarcophagus on Cole's Hill in Plymouth. A massive flood in 1735 washed away many original graves, unmarked and planted over to conceal the magnitude of their loss.
